Jesus in Islam, Christianity, and Judaism: Key Differences

Beliefs in Islam, Christianity and Judaism on Jesus (Isa (as:))

The three major Abrahamic religions—Islam, Christianity, and Judaism—all view Jesus as an important figure. However, their beliefs about his nature and mission differ significantly.

Christianity

Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah prophesied in the Old Testament, and part of the Holy Trinity (God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). They believe that Jesus was both fully God and fully human, that he died on the cross to atone for humanity’s sins, and that he was resurrected from the dead. Christians await his second coming, when he will judge the living and the dead.

Islam

Muslims believe that Jesus (Isa) was a prophet and messenger of God, but not the Son of God. They reject the concept of the Trinity and believe that God is one and indivisible. Muslims believe that Jesus was miraculously born of a virgin, Mary, but that he was a human being, not divine. They believe that Jesus did not die on the cross but was instead raised bodily into heaven by God. Muslims also believe that Jesus will return to Earth before the Day of Judgment.

Judaism

Judaism does not believe that Jesus was the Messiah or the Son of God. Jews believe that the Messiah has not yet come and that Jesus fulfilled none of the messianic prophecies in the Hebrew Bible. Judaism rejects the concept of the Trinity and emphasizes the oneness of God.

These are just some of the core differences in how these three religions view Jesus. These differing beliefs have had a profound impact on the development of each religion and continue to shape how their followers understand the world and their place in it.
